Barnett’s Gem Helps Bombers Snap Losing Skid

The Dubois County Bombers notched their first home win of the season, shutting out the Madisonville Miners 2-0 behind a strong performance by starting pitcher Lucas Barnett.

The Bombers scored all they would need in the first inning. Caleb Lonkard lashed a two-out double into left center. Glenn Jones followed with a sinking liner into shallow center for a single that was misplayed by Miner center fielder Adam Schuster. Lonkard came in to score and Jones advanced to second on the error. Joe Redburn followed with a double to deep left field, scoring Jones. The Bombers led 2-0 after one frame. As the first inning ended, so did the scoring for the evening.

Miner starter Abraham Almonte settled down after a rocky first inning. Dubois County would only advance runners as far as second base in two frames after that. Reid Clements and Miles Wagner came out of the Madisonville bullpen to help keep the Bombers off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

But Barnett was in command all night long, allowing only two Madisonville runners to reach scoring position in his seven innings of work. At one point he retired 13 consecutive Miners, as they went down in order in the 4th, 5th, and 6th. With the win, Barnett squares his record at 1-1. His ERA drops to 1.50.

Brandon Hicks pitched the 8th and 9th innings for Dubois County, earning his third save in as many appearances.

Almonte takes the loss in his first decision.

The Bombers first shutout of the season raises their record to 3-6. The Miners fall to 0-9.
