Miscues lead to Bombers 10-3 loss @ Owensboro

Early wildness and defensive miscues were the Bombers undoing again in a 10-3 loss at Owensboro.

Seven consecutive Oilers reached base in the second inning, but only two by way of base hits. Brian Wichman didn’t have his best control on this night, walking three and hitting one batter in that stretch. Add in an error by left fielder Tanner Wood, and the result was six consecutive Owensboro batters crossing the plate in the second inning.

The Bombers scored twice in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-3. In the fourth inning, Glenn Jones reached on an error. Joe Sturino was then hit by a pitch. Wood and Sturino pulled off a double steal to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Kaleb King brought in Wood on a groundout. Rick Linton followed with a double to score Sturino.

The Bombers added another run in the fifth. Tanner Wood led off with a double, his second hit of the game. After advancing to third on a fly ball, he scored on a passed ball.

Wichman took the loss. His record stands at 0-1. The Bombers fall to 2-6 on the season.

After an off date on Wednesday, the Bombers will return to action hosting Madisonville on Thursday night. It will be Thirsty Thursday at League Stadium with 50 cents off all beer, $1 peanuts (warm!), and $1 off Bomber Coozies purchased with a beer!  The Bombers look forward to taking advantage of some home cooking this weekend, with four of the next five games being played in League Stadium.
