Offense Shows Up to Win against the Chiefs

The Dubois County Bombers season has been a series of tight contests. Extra innings, walkoffs, and one-run games have been the rule. Last night was a little different. The Bombers employed a “you-walk-em-we’ll-bang-em-in” strategy in shellacking the Paducah Chiefs 16-2 at League Stadium

Paducah scored first, netting an unearned run off Bomber starting pitcher Ryan Luckett (Rend Lake College) in the second inning.

The Bombers responded immediately with an 8-run explosion. The Chiefs starting pitcher walked six Bombers in the frame, all of them coming around to score. A sacrifice fly by Nick Gonzales preceded a 3-run blast over the left-field fence off the bat of Evan Aders to advance the score to 8-1 in the Bombers favor after just two innings.

The Chiefs got four base hits in the first two innings, but Luckett held them hitless afterwards until the sixth.

Tobe Whitten (Oakland City University) hit a monster blast over the manual scoreboard in the Bomber seventh, restoring a 7-run lead at 8-2.

In the eighth, the Bombers sent another 11 batters to the plate, matching the 2nd inning total. Five more walks were mixed in with a Nick Gonzales 2-RBI triple, a Whitten RBI single, and a 2-RBI double by Trevor Ricker(USI).

Kevin Davis (Olney Central) and Sam Mudd (USI) came out of the Bomber bullpen to keep the Chiefs in check for the balance of the contest.

The evening also featured a series of spectacular defensive plays by the Bombers. Ben Wilcoxson (Kentucky Wesleyan) at short, Payton Mattingly (Olney Central) at third, and Brad Fuhrhop (Kaskaskia College) each turned multiple web gems.

The win marks the Bombers seventh in their last nine games. After dropping the first six games of the season, the Bombers have climbed to just a game under .500 at 7-8.

Following a road game tonight, the Bombers will return to League Stadium on Thursday for a Thirsty Thursday and Rock-Paper-Scissors promotion. The Bombers will also be home on Saturday when the Flying Houndz will be an added attraction.
